Mechanical Engineer – MEP Department Engineering

We are seeking a qualified and experienced Mechanical Engineer – MEP Department to join our project supervision team. The successful candidate will support the Head of Department (MEP) in supervising, monitoring, and coordinating mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) works associated with railway station buildings and related facilities. The role will primarily focus on mechanical engineering systems, including HVAC, ventilation, chilled water, plumbing, drainage, fire protection, pumps, and other mechanical services. The successful candidate will also be required to have a good working knowledge of electrical and plumbing systems to support effective multidisciplinary coordination and integration. As part of the Supervision Consultant's team, the Mechanical Engineer will monitor the Contractor's works to ensure compliance with approved drawings, contract specifications, applicable codes, quality standards, and project requirements.

Job Description

1. Construction Supervision

  • Supervise the Contractor's mechanical works and monitor progress, quality, and compliance with approved drawings, specifications, and contract requirements.
  • Conduct routine site inspections and identify defects, non-conformities, and construction issues requiring corrective action.
  • Verify that mechanical installations are carried out using approved materials, equipment, and construction methodologies.

 

2. Technical Reviews

  • Review shop drawings, material submittals, method statements, Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), commissioning procedures, and Operation & Maintenance manuals related to MEP works.
  • Provide technical comments and recommendations for approval by the Head of Department (MEP).
  • Ensure all submissions comply with project requirements and relevant international standards.

 

3. MEP Coordination

  • Coordinate mechanical works with electrical, plumbing, architectural, civil, structural, and railway system disciplines to ensure proper integration within the station buildings.
  • Possess sufficient knowledge of electrical and plumbing systems to identify interface issues, participate in multidisciplinary reviews, and support coordinated engineering decisions.
  • Attend coordination meetings with the Client, Contractor, and other stakeholders as required.

 

4. Quality Assurance and Testing

  • Witness inspections, testing, and commissioning of mechanical systems, including HVAC, chilled water, ventilation, plumbing, drainage, fire protection, pumps, and associated equipment.
  • Review Requests for Inspection (RFIs), Material Inspection Requests (MIRs), test reports, and quality documentation.
  • Monitor the timely rectification of defects and closure of punch-list items.

 

5. Progress Monitoring and Reporting

  • Monitor the Contractor's progress against approved work programmes and report delays or technical concerns.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports covering site progress, quality observations, technical issues, and recommendations.
  • Maintain accurate inspection records and engineering documentation.

 

6. Contract Administration Support

  • Assist the Head of Department (MEP) by providing technical input on site instructions, technical queries, variation assessments, engineering evaluations, and contractor submissions.
  • Support inspections for milestone completion, testing, commissioning, and project handover.

 

7. Health, Safety and Environmental Compliance

  • Monitor compliance with project Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) requirements during MEP installations.
  • Report unsafe conditions and unsafe work practices observed during site inspections.

Job Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized university.

  • Minimum of 3 years' relevant experience in MEP engineering, construction supervision, engineering consultancy, or a related field.

  • Experience in railway, transportation, commercial, institutional, or other large infrastructure projects is an advantage.

  • Professional registration with a recognized engineering body is desirable.

  • Sound knowledge of HVAC, chilled water, and ventilation systems.

  • Good knowledge of plumbing, drainage, water supply, and fire protection systems.

  • Knowledge of mechanical plant, pumps, and utility services.

  • Basic understanding of electrical building services, including power distribution, lighting, ELV systems, standby power, and earthing, for effective MEP coordination.

  • Good understanding of QA/QC procedures, inspection, testing, and commissioning.

  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.

  • Knowledge of relevant international codes and standards applicable to MEP works.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and AutoCAD or equivalent engineering software.

  • Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication and technical report-writing skills.

  • Strong organizational, coordination, and teamwork abilities.

  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary consultancy environment.

  • High level of professionalism, integrity, attention to detail, and engineering judgement.

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet project deadlines.

  • Willingness and ability to work at project site(s) as required.
